The Peregrine Winery and its vineyards are located in the southernmost grape growing region in the world at latitude 45 South, in Central Otago, the heart of New Zealand’s South Island. Central Otago is New Zealand’s only inland and elevated wine growing region, with vineyards nestled in breathtaking river valleys, clinging to snow capped mountainsides or perched gently on the shores of crystal clear lakes. This environment is home to the Peregrine falcon and home to Peregrine Wines. The Peregrine wines are named in honour of New Zealand’s endemic falcon (Karearea in Maori), a bird that combines both power and finesse, the essence of Peregrine’s range of wines. Peregrine is a boutique, artisan producer of a premium range of wines, with a focus on Pinot Noir, and an outstanding range of white varietals. It is a brand that has, since its first vintage in 1998, gained a reputation both domestically and internationally as one of New Zealand’s iconic wine brands.
Owned and managed by two generations of the McLachlan family, Peregrine Wines combines a talent and love for great wine-making with the desire to preserve and enhance the land from which it comes. Lindsay McLachlan, along with his family, were one of the first to establish plantings in the Bendigo sub-region of Central Otago in 1999. Driven by the wish to create lasting wines from some of the finest grape sources in the southern hemisphere, the family is intimately involved with every aspect of the business, bringing a balance of professional expertise and agricultural skill to every stage of production. Experience is at the heart of great wine making, but a fine wine is only created where there is pleasure in the process itself.


Nadine Cross has been the Head Winemaker at Peregrine since 2010. Nadine brings with her vast international experience working in predominantly Cool Climate Regions. Working in France in the Loire Valley; in Sonoma at Dumol (Organic) and Buena Vista Wineries and in Marlborough at Seresin (organic/biodynamic), Villa Maria and Wither Hills Wineries.

Nadine’s upbringing and extensive experience in Winemaking from multiple regions, has led to her passion for organics and sustainability in her field. Peregrine had already started implanting Organics into the viticulture and winemaking when Nadine commenced in 2010 and she has thoroughly enjoyed the process to conversion with the 2017 Estate Range of Peregrine Wines now being Certified Organic.

For Nadine, winemaking is about learning, being observant and quality focused, in order to let the land and the environment speak through the wine, while helping lead a top-flight wine making team.
